Wooden Wick Care Tips

Wooden Wick Care Tips

We want you to know all the deets on how to care for your wooden wicks.

But first, why did we choose to use wooden wicks for our candles? In short, because they are so much better! In long, because wood wicks create shorter and wider flame heights, which keeps them safe for use. Also, wood wicks don't 'mushroom' the way cotton wicks do! That means minimal carbon build up and minimal debris and sooting. They are also super cool to look at!

Okay... on to caring for your wicks. With a wooden wick, shorter is better. You must trim the wick before each use otherwise it will not be able to pull the wax up the wick and the flame will diminish and even possibly extinguish. Using a wick trimmer is best but you can also use scissors for the first cut. Once you've burned the candle and let it cool, gently break off the tip with your finger. This will work for each use after your initial cutting.

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow your candle enough time to melt the wax all the way to the edge of the jar - creating what we call a "burn memory". This burn memory is important for soy candles to prevent tunneling. Our candles usually takes 1-2 hours to melt to the edge of the jar.

To light your candle, simply light the corner of the wick and the flame will travel across your wick. Approx. 10-20 seconds.

A wooden wick may require a bit extra care and effort but the results are totally worth the effort. Please remember to continue to use all candle care and safety tips to ensure a long, enjoyable experience with your candle.
